Q: Was there one incident that made you decide that this was the right time to run?
A: I do not feel the educated, compassionate, inclusive, and friendly people of Manhattan Beach are being represented in a fashion that promotes the true social values we all have been a part of for as long as I have lived in the City. There are numerous instances that have contradicted these values and I will not highlight just one thereby making it paramount.
Q: Do you think of yourself as a “proud progressive”?
A: Partisan politics is dividing us like never before. I don’t know if I even believe in a two-party system anymore.
Q: Are you in favor of defunding or re-imagining the police?
A: My perspective may be a bit biased since I have spent hundreds of hours volunteering with the Police Department patrolling our city. I do not believe in defunding the Police. With that said, let me offer that Police culture has changed over the years and I think it will continue to change for the better. I feel that our Department is very responsive to our community.
Q: Do you think Manhattan Beach is a systemically racist city?
A: When Senator Steven Bradford asked when Manhattan Beach is “going to come out from underneath its rock” at the deed transfer ceremony wherein there was no formal representation from our City it was alarming. Senator Bradford championed the deed transfer bill in the California legislature with absolutely no opposition from any other party or individual representative in the State. Having our County Supervisor validate his statement by standing next to him in agreement at the ceremony was also striking. Yes, I was there as was Councilperson Hildy Stern. No other Councilperson, or candidates attended. Manhattan Beach is not a racist city! However, you have to ask yourself what have we done to combat or contribute to that image? Currently, our image as a racist city is in question. Just ask anyone outside of the City. Yes, I am very upset about it.
Q: What is your favorite movie of all time?
A: A movie starring Paul Newman called “Blaze” that I have a copy of but no longer have a VHS player to watch it.
Q: If elected, would you use pronouns?
A: No only because no matter how many times I ask it just doesn’t work for my speech pattern.

Manhattan Village Adds Tenants:
Seven new tenants, including West Elm, Alo Yoga, and Saint & Second, will open at Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach. These tenants will open in 2022 and 2023, joining Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters. This retail and dining expansion follows a $250 million JLL-managed redevelopment project.

“I am a single woman, 45 years old, living in Playa del Rey with my dog, who has loved visiting Manhattan Beach over the last 12 years. Five to 10 years ago, when I visited the downtown area of Manhattan Beach, I had vivid memories of seeing police everywhere. Some on horseback, some on bikes, talking to people, present, friendly, and most importantly, several, not one. In the last few years, since the beginning of COVID, I have seen a radical change with no police officers ever present downtown. I have probably been to the downtown area of Manhattan Beach 100 times in the last three years. I cannot count one police officer that I’ve seen. I’ve been quite surprised to read the new Police Chief’s ‘happy talk’ about how policing downtown has been increased because I’m yet to see one over many, many, many visits.”

Beyond Meat South Bay COO Arrested, Accused Of Biting Man’s Nose:
The Chief Operating Officer of the El Segundo-based vegan meat company Beyond Meat was arrested on suspicion of battery stemming from accusations that he bit a man’s nose after a college football game in Arkansas on Saturday. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Douglas Ramsey, 53, was arrested on suspicion of making a terrorist threat and third-degree battery in connection with an incident that happened in a parking garage near Razorback Stadium in Arkansas. Witnesses reported to the police that Ramsey allegedly punched through the back windshield of another man’s Subaru and then punched and “bit the owner’s nose, ripping the flesh on the tip of the nose,” according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
